Slow Growing – Compensation Increases Less Than Rate of Inflation
According to Modern Healthcare’s 2010 Physician Compensation Survey, many specialties saw compensation increases less than the rate of inflation (2.7% per the Consumer Price Index). Only five of the 23 specialties tracked showed an average increase above the rate of inflation. Osteopathic Medical School Graduate Numbers Continue to Rise
This spring, U.S. osteopathic medical schools graduated 3,845 seniors, a number that has grown steadily over the past decade. The graduates, who are preparing to enter residency programs across the country, will help mitigate the nation’s physician workforce shortage as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148) and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act (PL 111-152) are implemented. Provisions in these acts are expected to allow coverage for a projected 32 million uninsured Americans.
‘Top Doc’ iPhone App Improves Diagnostic Skills
Medical publisher Elsevier and video game developer Legacy Interactive have just announced the release of Top Doc, an iPhone app that features medical content and quizzes designed to let medical students, residents and junior faculty practice and improve their visual diagnosis skills.
